Endemic Pinewood Forest [UE4]

This project began as my senior thesis for my 3D Digital Design major at R.I.T. Originally I wanted this to be a small horror game but due to time constraints. I had to keep this as a 3D environment project that also tells a story. I wanted to challenge myself from everything I have learned from school and push my limits at what I am able to create by myself. I wanted to tell the story of an abandoned laboratory hidden away in a remote pine forest. The building has many secrets and clues to be discovered. Something horrible has happened to this place. Where is everybody? How long has this place been vacant? Is there something else lurking around here?

I learned a lot from this project. I created a large environment modular kit, learned a lot about Allegorithmic Substance Designer/Painter software, ZBrush sculpting, vertex painting, and baking with xNormal and ZBrush. I also learned how to create destruction, debris, and damaged props. I wanted the environment to have nature taking over the building with plants such as weeds, vines, roots, and small trees. This project also gave me the chance to learn SpeedTree to create realistic-looking trees for games.
